INCAA´s school

National Experimentation Filmmaking School (ENERC)

The ENERC, coming under the National Institute of Films and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), stands as the sole state and public institution fully focusing on cinematographic production. Six tertiary-level courses of studies such as Film Making, Film Production,

It aims at training highly qualified professionals in the audiovisual environment. Accordingly, not only is it endowed with a renowned teaching staff, but it is also governed by strict admission and attendance policies characterized by a one-to-one teacher-student relationship.

The availability of free-of-charge courses of studies proves the fair commitment pursued by this school namely : equality of conditions, material and equipment for all students.

For students to be admitted at the ENERC, they are required to go through three assessment stages comprising two written exams – intended to test students´ creativity and general education - and, in terms of the average mark resulting from previously taken exams, they shall be required to give a talk as part of a third examination stage. Following such talk, there will be 10 students left per course of studies to apply for the following academic year´s courses.

As to foreign students, they may be admitted at this school on condition that they do not account for over 10% of the total number of vacancies available. Regarding enrollment, it is generally in progress between November and December. With respect to the attendance timetable for all courses of studies available, students are required to attend classes from Monday through Friday from 5 pm -12 am. In certain cases and depending on the year students are in, they will be required to attend classes on Saturdays from 1 pm to 3 pm. Furthermore, the School has forged ties with the National Fine Arts University (IUNA), which allows the ENERC graduates to continue studying for a further two-year term, and, thus, be granted the degree of holders in Audiovisual Arts. Similar bonds have been built based upon an agreement entered into by the INCAA and the San Martin University (UNSAM), so that ENERC students may pursue a degree in the field of Visual ArtsTeaching.

As to the institute´s facilities, they feature publishers, editing bays, a projection room, a microfilm room, a main lecture hall, a full-fledged library, a video library, a newspaper library and three film set locations.

Still, the ENERC equally serves as an Argentine film production and broadcasting institution. For instance, the final thesis submitted by third year students in a 16 mm format, which is likely to be enlarged to that of a 35 mm size, addresses a series of worldwide exhibitions and festivals. On the other hand, the school exhibitions and festivals issue has been dealt with afresh over the last years following the ENERC joining the Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision (CILECT) once again and the ratifying of the commitment undertaken with the Latin American Federation of Image and Sound Schools (FEISAL).

Some of its graduates are outstanding film directors such as Lucrecia Martel (La mujer sin cabeza, La ciénaga), Fabián Bielinsky (9 reinas), Lucía Puenzo (XXY), Tristán Bauer (Iluminados por el fuego), Jorge Gaggero (Cama adentro) or Sandra Gugliotta (Un día de suerte), to mention just a few.

The adoption of policies involving: free-of-charge courses, a high-quality training, a wide range of courses of study, a boost to filmmaking, a smooth and vast broadcasting system, and the availability of modern facilities, have therefore caused the ENERC to become a safe choice to make within an ever increasingly demanding and further professionalized film-making market.
